What does a tyre-service quotation include?
Compare quotations for the same work
When choosing a nearby tyre business, assess the price together with the scope of the work. Ask separately about the tyre, fitting and any mobile attendance charge when comparing quotations. A figure for a product alone does not cover the same scope as another business’s product-and-fitting total. Describe the vehicle and the work you need clearly, and ask which items the quotation includes.
Ask about product specification and stock
If a product is needed, ask for the proposed tyre’s brand, model and technical specification. Do not assume that products are equivalent simply because the size or brand sounds similar; suitability for your vehicle needs a separate assessment. Having a product in stock is also different from confirming a time for the work. Ask the business how it will obtain the product and whether it will be ready for the planned date. If the product changes, discuss explicitly which part of the quotation changes.
Find out which labour operations are included
For labour, ask the business to specify the operations included. Fitting, checks and any proposed additional work should be distinguished. Discuss how you will be informed and how your agreement will be obtained if an inspection reveals another requirement. Do not assume that work different from your request is automatically included in the quotation. Making a note of anything left undecided during the first conversation can help you ask for clarification later.
Clarify mobile attendance and the total
For a mobile service, ask separately about location, access and any travel or call-out items. These charges cannot be assumed to apply to every business or to none of them. Also clarify whether the total includes tax and any other stated costs. Compare offers based on the same conditions. The directory does not set a common price list or promise discounts on behalf of businesses. Access to business information is free; rely on the selected business’s explanation of product and service charges.
When two quotations cover different things
If one business quotes only a product price and another quotes a product-and-fitting total, first ask them to separate the items. “Which operations and any travel charge are included in this amount?” is a useful question for clarifying the comparison. Assess answers given for the same vehicle and work. No price or discount is promised on behalf of the directory.
